Smart Irrigation System
Automated plant watering system using a soil moisture sensor and Arduino/ESP32.
This project automatically monitors soil moisture and controls a water pump to irrigate plants when the soil is dry. It helps in water conservation and can be used for home gardening and agriculture applications.

1. Project Overview
The Smart Irrigation System monitors the moisture level in the soil using a soil moisture sensor. When the soil becomes dry, the controller automatically turns ON the water pump. When sufficient moisture is detected, the pump turns OFF. The project can be implemented using Arduino UNO or ESP32 and can be extended with IoT-based remote monitoring.
2. Key Features
Automatic plant watering based on soil moisture level
Accurate soil moisture monitoring
Automatic water pump ON/OFF control
Easy to build and test
Can be extended with ESP32 IoT monitoring
Suitable for home gardens and agriculture

Connection Details
Working Principle
The soil moisture sensor measures the moisture level in the soil.
Arduino reads the sensor value from analog pin (A0).
If the soil is dry (value below threshold), Arduino turns ON the relay module.
The relay supplies 12V to the water pump.
When the soil is wet, the pump is turned OFF.
Notes
Use an external 12V DC power supply for the water pump.
Ensure common ground between Arduino and relay module.
Use a flyback diode if using a high-power pump.
You can also use ESP32 instead of Arduino UNO.
Adjust the moisture threshold in the code as per your soil type.

2.How to Run the Simulation
Download the simulation file (.pdsprj) from the right side.
Open Proteus (Version 8 or above).
Click on File → Open and select the downloaded file.
Click the Play button (▶) to start the simulation.
Observe the LCD display and water pump status.
Change the soil moisture value (using virtual terminal or potentiometer if available) and see the pump ON/OFF operation.

3. Try it Yourself
Set soil moisture to dry (e.g., < 30%) and check pump turns ON.
Set soil moisture to wet (e.g., > 60%) and check pump turns OFF.
Modify the moisture threshold value in the code and test.
Try adding an LCD display to show the moisture level and pump status.
Experiment with different sensor values and observe the system behavior.

Make sure all connections are correct.
Use the same component values as given in the circuit diagram.
If the pump does not turn ON, check the relay connection and supply voltage.
You can also add an LED in parallel with the pump to indicate the status.
For IoT version (ESP32), you can simulate using virtual terminal or serial monitor.
Simulation Tips
Simulation file not opening → Use Proteus 8 or above.
Pump not working → Check relay connections.
LCD not displaying → Verify I2C/LCD connections.
Sensor value not changing → Adjust the virtual potentiometer or input value.

Working- Smart Irrigation System
Step-by-step working explanation with output images and demonstration.
1
System Ready
When the system is powered ON, the LCD displays the current soil moisture level.
If the soil is wet (moisture value above threshold), the pump remains OFF.

Pump is OFF
No watering
Soil is Wet
(> 60%)
2
Soil Becomes Dry
When the soil moisture level drops below the threshold (e.g., < 30%), the system detects it and automatically turns ON the water pump.

Soil is Dry
(< 30%)
Pump is ON
Watering starts automatically
3
After Watering
Once the soil becomes wet (moisture value rises above the threshold), the system turns OFF the pump automatically.

Pump is OFF
Irrigation stops
Soil is Wet Again
(> 60%)
The Smart Irrigation System automatically monitors soil moisture and controls the water pump without human intervention, helping in water conservation and efficient plant care.
